Benefits of Massage

The idea that touch can heal is an old one…and science is confirming what we knew in our hearts — that ‘massage is medicine’.” (Reader’s Digest, Feb. 1998)

A soothing, deeply relaxing style of massage, I blend Western and Eastern techniques to facilitate healing. Each session is tailored to the individual and may include a variety of massage strokes, acupressure, foot reflexology, and the therapeutic use of warm rocks either to stimulate acupressure points or for deep tissue work.

In scientifically credible studies massage has been shown to

  • Increase circulation of blood and lymph
  • Decrease pain
  • Decrease blood pressure (short-term)
  • Relieve tight muscles
  • Reduce muscle spasms
  • Decrease stress, anxiety, depression states temporarily
  • Increase levels of serotonin and dopamine (neurotransmitters that give a sense of well-being)
  • Boost the immune system (increasing lymphocytes and NK cells – responsible for destroying cancer and viral cells)
  • Improve sleep
